SUMMARY:Wall Restoration Workshop\, Campbellford
DESCRIPTION:For many years Dry Stone Canada hosted\, with The Friends of Ferris\, a wall restoration workshop in Ferris Provincial Park in Campbellford. And although that project is complete\, we are not done in Campbellford. Now\, thanks to our friends from Ferris\, we have connected with another host to rebuild another wall just east of town. \n\n\n\nThis property is beautifully situated in the Trent Hills. The wall is only about 50 years old but\, due to well-intentioned but unfortunate building methods\, the wall is failing. Our project is to tear down a section and rebuild it. This workshop is suitable for beginners. \n\n\n\nOur Host\n\n\n\nStone Haven\, Pethericks Corner\, Ontario\n\n\n\nRoger and Hazel are our hosts. The home is a classic Loyalist stone house on a 5 acre property in the Trent Hills. \n\n\n\nSchedule and Preparation\n\n\n\n\n\nTimes\n\n\n\nSaturday9:00: Overview and site work begins12:00 Lunch13:00 Review and continue work16:00 End of day one \n\n\n\nSunday9:00: Review work and continue12:00 Lunch13:00 Review and continue16:00 Final photo and workshop close \n\n\n\n*Lunch and snacks are included \n\n\n\n\n\nRequired Equipment\n\n\n\n\nSafety glasses\n\n\n\nSafety boots (if you have them)\n\n\n\nGloves (don’t bring expensive gloves they get shredded just as quickly as the cheap ones)\n\n\n\nAppropriate clothing – We work in all weather conditions\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDirections and Accommodations\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\nRegister now\n\n\n\nVolunteer

SUMMARY:Walling Workshop\, Gibbs Honey\, Vankleek Hill
DESCRIPTION:Our Host\n\n\n\nGibbs Honey is owned by Andrea and Russell Gibbs. They combine time-honoured tradition with modernity to produce premium\, 100% raw honey and beeswax products—made only by their bees. The historic farm is located on 111 acres of pasture\, forest and wildflower meadows. The property features a Victorian farmhouse and a well-preserved barn dating back to the late 1800’s. They are passionate about maintaining the original character of the farm and are excited about the opportunity to rebuild the stone wall at the front entrance of the property. \n\n\n\nThis dry stone workshop is designed for beginner level wallers. This is a new wall using stone from the property. The focus of the workshop will be on the application of proper structural principles of dry stone walling. SUMMARY:Heritage Wall Restoration Workshop\, Cherry Hill
DESCRIPTION:Dry Stone Canada is proud to partner with The Friends of Cherry Hill Cemetery to offer this 2 day walling workshop. This is the fourth time Dry Stone Canada has offered a workshop outside of Ontario! \n\n\n\nCherry Hill is a seaside village in Lunenburg county\, Nova Scotia\, about one hundred fifteen kilometres from Halifax. It’s on the Lighthouse Route. Nearby communities are Vogler’s Cove (3 km) and Broad Cove (4 km). Slightly further afield are the villages of Petite Riviere\, Mill Village\, and Port Medway. \n\n\n\nThe Friends of Cherry Hill Old Community Cemetery propose to restore a cemetery wall dating from the 1840s. It defines the entrance to the resting place of the many of Cherry Hill’s first early settlers. Currently\, much of the wall is hidden under an overgrowth of shrub and grass.  \n\n\n\nThe remnants of stone walls throughout the Municipality of the District of Lunenburg attest to two centuries of dry stone walling tradition all over the district. The Friends of Cherry Hill Old Community Cemetery are a group of volunteers who want to preserve local history and to learn more of the art of dry stone walling. \n\n\n\nOur Host\n\n\n\nThe Friends of Cherry Hill Cemetery\, is a not for profit organization dedicated to Cherry Hill Cemetery \n\n\n\nSchedule and Preparation\n\n\n\n\n\nTimes\n\n\n\nFriday19:00 – 20:30 Public talk: Dry Stone Diaries Walling in Nova Scotia & Beyond \n\n\n\nSaturday08:30 – Welcome\, instruction\, field work12:00 – Lunch13:00 – Review and field work16:00 – End of day 1 workshop16:00 – BBQ at local home \n\n\n\nSunday             08:30 – Review work and continue12:00 – Lunch13:00 – Review and continue16:00 – Final photo and end \n\n\n\n*Lunch and snacks are included \n\n\n\n\n\nRequired Equipment\n\n\n\n\nSafety glasses\n\n\n\nSafety boots (if you have them)\n\n\n\nGloves (don’t bring expensive gloves\, they get shredded just as quickly as the cheap ones)\n\n\n\nAppropriate clothing – we work in all weather conditions\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDirections and Accommodations\n\n\n\n\n\nHow to Get There\n\n\n\nCherry Hill Cemetery \n\n\n\n\n\nWhere to Stay\n\n\n\nHotels are available about 40 km away in the towns of Liverpool or Bridgewater.Risser’s Beach Provincial Park is about 12 km away.Friends of Cherry Hill Old Community Cemetery will try to find billets for participants if needed. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRegister now\n\n\n\nVolunteer

SUMMARY:Wall Workshop\, Lombardy
DESCRIPTION:Our Host\n\n\n\nIn early 2020\, Sabina Barrett and Byron Carroll purchased the McKinney House property\, unaware of its historical significance or long-standing reputation as a local landmark. Byron is an Ironworker and Welder with experience in masonry and carpentry\, while Sabina has a background in architecture and works as a Conservation Technologist and Heritage Planner. The mid-19th-century stone house was built by blacksmith William McKinney along the former stagecoach route between Bytown and Kingston\, establishing the property as an early hub of rural industry and travel. One of its defining features was the stone wall at the front of the property\, later moved during the 1950s highway expansion and now significantly deteriorated. They are committed to restoring the property with care\, beginning with rebuilding the stone wall as close to its original location as possible\, preserving a character-defining feature that has framed the landmark for over 165 years. \n\n\n\nSchedule and Preparation\n\n\n\n\n\nTimes\n\n\n\nSaturday9:00: Overview and site work begins12:00 Lunch13:00 Review and continue work16:00 End of day one \n\n\n\nSunday9:00: Review work and continue12:00 Lunch13:00 Review and continue16:00 Final photo and workshop close \n\n\n\n*Lunch and snacks are included \n\n\n\n\n\nRequired Equipment\n\n\n\n\nSafety glasses\n\n\n\nSafety boots (if you have them)\n\n\n\nGloves (don’t bring expensive gloves they get shredded just as quickly as the cheap ones)\n\n\n\nAppropriate clothing – We work in all weather conditions\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRegister now\n\n\n\nVolunteer
