June 11-12: Retaining Wall Restoration Workshop, Bishop’s House, St. Raphael’s, Ontario

We invite you to take part in a project where Dry Stone Canada will be working with the Glengarry Fencibles Trust to restore the retaining wall built in the Bishop’s college garden in 1826.

The focus of this workshop will be on the application of dry stone walling principles for the preservation of historic stone walls.

This student course will be an excellent introduction to the basics of walling for persons of all ages and abilities and for experienced wallers looking to hone their retaining wall skills. The conservation work will be respecting the historic character of this landscape as identified by Parks Canada and will adhere to their “standards and guidelines.”

This two-day workshop is suitable for beginners. No tools are required.

Workshops include a maximum of 12 registered participants.

Fee: $200.00

Our Host

This workshop will take place in South Glengarry Township (an hour from Ottawa and Montreal). You will find heritage information at the Bishop’s House website and visitor information at the Cornwall Tourism website.

Required Equipment

  • Safety glasses
  • Safety boots (if you have them)
  • Gloves (don’t bring expensive gloves they get shredded just as quickly as the cheap ones)
  • Appropriate clothing – We work in all weather conditions
