Getting certified

Certification in Canada

Dry Stone Canada does not have any plans to offer certification exams in 2018. However, Dean McLellan (Master Craftsman, examiner), is offering testing for Level 1 and Level 2 certification exams (UK scheme) in conjunction with events he is hosting with Upper Canada Stone.

Current event dates are as follows:

  • Sat/Sun May 26-27, Monday, May 28th certification testing, Holstein, Ontario
  • Fri/Sat June 22-23, Sunday June 24th certification testing, Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario
  • Fri/Sat Aug 17-18, Sunday August 19th certification testing, Madoc, Ontario

Certification Opportunities Outside of Canada

Dry Stone Canada recognizes both the following associations’s certification programs as valid dry stone training.

The Stone Trust Certification Schedule (Vermont)

  • follows DSWAUK Certification scheme

Dry Stone Conservancy Certification Schedule (Kentucky)

  • has its own certification scheme (incorporates project management related training)

Information about DSWA GB Certification Scheme

The DSWA GB Craftsman Certification Scheme is the leading internationally recognized certification standard for dry stone walling. The DSWA certification levels are:

  • Level 1/Initial
  • Level 2/Intermediate
  • Level 3/Advanced
  • Master Craftsman
