Dry Stone Canada is proud to partner with The Friends of Cherry Hill Cemetery to offer this 2 day walling workshop. This is a first for Dry Stone Canada: to offer a workshop outside of Ontario!
Cherry Hill is a seaside village situated in Lunenburg county, Nova Scotia, about one hundred fifteen kilometers from Halifax. It’s on the Lighthouse Route. Nearby communities are Vogler’s Cove (3 km) and Broad Cove (4 km). Slightly further afield are the villages of Petite Riviere, Mill Village, and Port Medway.
The Friends of Cherry Hill Cemetery (FCHC) propose to restore a cemetery wall dating from the early to mid 1800’s. It defines the entrance to the resting place of the many of Cherry Hill’s first early settlers. Currently much of the wall is hidden under an overgrowth of shrub and grass.
The remnants of stone walls throughout the Municipality of the District of Lunenburg attest to two centuries of dry stone walling tradition all over the district. The Friends of Cherry Hill Cemetery are a group are volunteers who want to preserve our local history and learn more of the art of dry stone walling.
