Committees
Committees meet as needed (at the discretion of the the Committee lead or if the Board requests it). And some meet more often than others (for example the festival committee may meet monthly if it is a festival year). Meetings are held on Zoom. A general update meeting of all committees may be requested by the board and would be scheduled every other month on the fourth Tuesday of the month at 7pm.
To get involved, let us know by filling out this form. The committee lead will contact you with more information.
Committees are a mix of social time and getting things done.
1. Meeting in Zoom
Committees will be meeting in Zoom. Once you join a committee, you will receive the full connection information. On the meeting day, click to join.
If you haven’t used Zoom before or have had trouble logging in before, send an email and we can walk you through it beforehand. More about joining a Zoom call here.
2. What we’ll do (typically for a general committee meeting)
We’ll meet in the main Zoom room.
- We’ll do a quick round of intros and hellos (5 mins)
- Then we’ll give a short overview of current projects (5 mins)
- Then we will go into breakout rooms (40 mins)
- We’ll come back to the main room and share what we did and what help we might need to move things forward (10 mins)
The number of breakouts will depend on how many people join the call, and what committees are working on. We’ll decide at the start of the meeting.
Each committee has active projects listed below.
Member lists will be updated periodically. We could use your ideas and energy, so we hope you will join.

This committee drives our membership outreach, benefits, and involvement in the dry stone community in Canada across a wide range of skills and interests.
Join this committee and help develop the Association.
Lead: Bill Jeffers
This committee drives our hands-on public workshop program. The Association hosts 7-10 workshops per year, involving on average 100 participants annually. Topics include dry stone wall restoration, new dry stone wall builds on public lands, and stone carving.
Join this committee to help develop our workshop program offerings, and enhance the workshop experience for participants, instructors, and host communities.
Leads: Kenny Davies, John Scott, Andre Lemieux,
This committee drives our skill development initiatives. These sessions, talks, and resources are open only to current members. Topics range across skills practice for wallers pursuing certification, historic site restoration in Canada, and working on large-scale commercial and collaborative projects with professionals in other fields.
Join this committee to help develop advanced skills within the Dry Stone Canada membership and further develop the art, craft, science, and excellence of dry stone walling in Canada.
Leads: Hilary Martin, Andrea Cross
This committee drives our offerings for youth interested in stone, building, and understanding the history, geography, and legacy of dry stone walling in Canada. Youth have always been part of our annual dry stone festival, building under parental supervision in our children’s area with walling volunteers. In 2019 Dry Stone Canada partnered with 4H on Amherst Island to add a structured component to this exploration.
Join this committee to help build our youth programming for the next generation of dry stone wallers in Canada.
Lead: Eric Landman
This committee drives the design and delivery of our annual Dry Stone Canada Festival. This major event draws over 100 wallers annually to a site in Canada for a major build over 3-4 days. The festival is well known for great hospitality, including fabulous local food and beverages, music, international guests, walling presentations, workshops, and connection to the community surrounding the festival site.
The festival committee is our largest committee and we welcome skills across all aspects of event coordination, far beyond building with stone.
Join this committee to continue our strong festival tradition over the coming years.
Leads: Renée Nadeau, Eric Landman
This committee manages Dry Stone Canada’s partnership with Dry Stone Wall Association of Ireland (DSWAI) in an annual learning exchange program between the two countries. Join this committee to participate in the success of this international partnership.
